Hemp Shoulder Bag with Mithila Art. This strong and roomy shoulder bag has an adjustable strap - wear from the shoulder or across the body.   A naturally organic hand loomed hemp bag hand painted with Mithila Art.

The flap fastens with wooden toggles and opens to reveal a large zipped pocket and pen holders on the outside.  There's a side pocket too for your mobile.  Inside there is a further zipped pocket and drop-in pocket. 100% Wild Nepali Hemp with cotton lining.

Colour: Natural hemp decorated with Mithila Art - these are all individually painted so design will vary, though they all have a picture of a person with a flower next to them. 3 bags available,  two with a man and flower and one with a lady and flower.  Please specify in the notes section of the order if you have a preference.

The wild hemp is gathered and processed by hand in the traditional way by farming families who weave fabric in quiet periods in the farming year. It is then hand-spun into yarn and woven into lengths of cloth before going to Kathmandu by bus. The farming families who produce this beautiful Himalayan textile receive a much-needed cash income from this business. This wild hemp is naturally organic and the cloth made entirely by hand. A local Nepali artist has hand painted our hemp bags with Mithila Art. Mithila Art is traditionally a woman's ritual art from Nepal and India and is composed of geometrical forms and magico-religious symbols. It is done on mud plastered walls and floors and the skill is passed down through the generations from mother to daughter.  The paintings and drawings mainly represent Hindu deities, animals, and human beings.
